Ghana Kho Kho Founder in an exclusive interview share his views
Kho-Kho the game of strong and unshakable faith when played with full force
and energy does not just remain a game but prayer and devotion in which
concentration plays a major role by just opening a new world for players in
which he/she forgets everything around him except only one goal to win and
only win and reside in the pleasure that is priceless.
Johnson Kwaku Gameli Kportufe is a Coach of Ghana who is working to
popularise and foster the capability of Ghana players towards Kho-Kho.
Moreover, Kho-Kho is thriving across the realm with the proclamation of
Ultimate Kho Kho league, acknowledgment of Kho-Kho in the next Asian
Games and plenties of International competitions and International Coaching
Camps on simultaneous basis.
Q1.What is your opinion about Kho-Kho?
Ans. Kho-Kho is an interesting and educative game. I personally can associate
myself to the game because of its similarities with one of our Ghanaian
indigenous game, anti-ekyire. Kho-Kho though technical is easy to play when
you become conversant with the rules.
Q2.What are your strategies to make Kho Kho into the mainstream game?
Ans. Myself together with a sports organization called SportDrive is developing
strategies and policies for its acceptance into National sports. However,
through the instrumentalities of the mentioned sports organization, we have
been able to introduce Kho-Kho into many mainstream sports in most schools
Q3.Who is Man behind the development of Kho Kho in Ghana?
Ans. I am the founder of Kho-Kho in Ghana, however, I have an abled team from
the SportDrive organization working hand in hand with me.
Q4.How players are showing interest in Kho-Kho?
Ans. Pre COVID19, we had some piloting sessions in about two schools where
we formed two teams in as much as players were not conversant with most of
the rules. It was educative and fun. However, we hope to bounce back very
soon as restrictions ease in my country to continue our piloting process and
recruit players for training.
Q5. What are your future plans to promote Kho-Kho in your country?
Ans. In about 2 years to come, I hope Kho-Kho becomes a National game and
we are able to participate in mainstream sporting events in my country. We are
working tirelessly towards that. Also, I believe in the near future, Ghana Kho-
Kho and Kho-Kho in Africa would engage in tournaments with the rest of the
Q6.How you trained Kho-Kho Players.
Ans. Pre COVID-19, We engage players with the basic skills in the playing of the
game, thus; touching, chasing, squatting and dodging. We want them to get
conversant before adding the technical aspect of the game.
